I reach in my closet

My fingers grasping… touchdown!!

The familiar material, that I reach for and know all too well

The half-cotton, half polyester blend– - the faded black

I know that I should replace it. It’s practically crying, begging to be put in the rags pile. But I can't.

I put one arm in one sleeve. Repeat. It still fits like a glove.

It makes me feel POWERFUL and confident

I make my way out the door, I have to have my game face on– – - interview time.

I see my black jacket in the washing machine, t-o-r-n, tatt-er-ed, b-r-o-k-e-n…

3 years, shelf-life

I pick it up gently thinking that this will save it

Who am I kidding? Nope!!!

My confidence shattered into a zillion pieces

Time to face facts– gotta shell out cash for a new one.

I get angry and toss it in the rag pile… there it stays

Like a person chosen last for a team
